Bomb Threat Delays Shillong-Bound IndiGo Flight at Kolkata Airport for Four Hours, Turns Out to Be Hoax

An IndiGo flight bound for Shillong faced a significant disruption at Kolkata airport on Saturday due to a bomb threat that resulted in the aircraft being stranded for approximately four hours. According to an official statement, IndiGo flight 6E 7304 was redirected to an isolation bay after a handwritten note claiming that a bomb had been placed on board was discovered. The alarming situation unfolded around 9:15 AM, just 15 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure time, when one of the crew members found the threatening note in the aircraft’s lavatory. At that time, some of the 60 passengers had already boarded the plane. In response to the threat, airport authorities promptly evacuated the passengers and moved the aircraft to an isolation area to ensure their safety. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that standard security protocols were immediately implemented, and a thorough inspection was conducted by the appropriate security agencies. After a meticulous search, which confirmed the bomb threat to be a hoax, the flight was cleared to continue its journey, departing for Shillong at 1:33 PM. This incident highlights the critical importance of aviation security and the swift actions taken by airport personnel and security agencies in response to potential threats, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew alike. Following the incident, authorities emphasized the need for vigilance and adherence to security measures in the airline industry, particularly in a country like India, where air travel has seen a significant increase in recent years. With safety being a paramount concern for airlines and airports, such incidents, though rare, serve as reminders of the ongoing challenges in maintaining secure travel environments. Travelers are urged to remain calm and cooperative during such situations, as the safety protocols are in place to protect everyone involved. As the aviation sector continues to grow in India, ensuring the highest levels of security remains a top priority for airlines, airports, and regulatory bodies.
